Darren Bent believes Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is interfering with Mykhailo Mudryk’s ability to play his best football.

Cucurella moved from Brighton to Chelsea last summer for £60 million, but failed to live up to expectations during his first season at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old left-back has been chastised for the caliber of his performances, with the former Brighton man struggling to replicate the form he displayed at the Amex Stadium last year.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter recently admitted that the full-back is struggling with his personal form.

Cucurella’s performances, according to Darren Bent, are having a negative impact on Mudryk.

Mudryk, a 22-year-old left-winger who joined the club in January, plays directly in front of Cucurella.

The Ukrainian attacker found it difficult to get too involved in the West Ham draw over the weekend, with a shaky full-back operating behind him.

Graham Potter reacts to Chelsea fans applauding the substitution of Cucurrella

“I enjoy Mudryk. What should you do if you’re playing in front of a full-back who doesn’t pass the ball forward? Cucurella always passes it backwards when he gets it. That’s not bringing out the best in him.”
