As he leads Napoli to Serie A glory, Victor Osimhen continues to pique the interest of Europe’s top clubs.
Jose Mourinho told Victor Osimhen what he needed to do to secure a dream move to the Premier League. The 24-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move away from Napoli for some time now as he continues to impress in Serie A.
Osimhen, whose contract with the Italian club expires in 2025, has appeared in 20 games for Luciano Spalletti’s side this season, assisting on 19 goals. His stunning performances have propelled Napoli 13 points clear of second-placed Inter Milan and Roma in the race for the Scudetto, attracting the attention of Chelsea in the process.
Meanwhile, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is ready to compete with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the summer for the talisman. According to the report, Spalletti’s team could ask for up to £100 million for Osimhen.
Chelsea struggled to replace Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge during his tenure, with only Diego Costa and Olivier Giroud coming close to filling the all-encompassing target man role. The Blues have tried Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, and, more recently, Pierre-Emerick Aubamyeang in recent years, but none have had much success.
So, Osimhen has stated that he will be filling Drogba’s shoes at Chelsea. Mourinho has given the Napoli star some advice in order for him to complete his dream move to the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho interested in a Chelsea player, as Todd Boehly about to set a price
However, the former Blues manager stated:
“Didier is on the same level as Drogba, but he did not dive. If Victor changes his mind, that’s fine.
“If I had a lot of money and was in a club, I’d buy him. However, if he ever goes to England, he must change his ways because in Italy, such behavior is tolerated, whereas in the Premier League, he would be severely punished.’
According to Mourinho:
“I told him he scored a fantastic goal and that he should stop diving so much. His goal was fantastic, and he did the same thing when we met earlier this season, so he’s a fantastic player. But he must not dive.”
According to Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia, the Nigeria international was close to joining Arsenal before deciding to join Napoli instead. Osimhen has previously claimed that the Gunners had inquired about him as a youngster.
Osimhen told The Independent in 2020:
“I spoke with Arsene Wenger after the tournament ended, and he invited me to join Arsenal.
“I had a lot of options. Barcelona, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and the rest.”
