Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed dissatisfaction with the inconsistency of the Video Assistant Referee system.
Ten Hag thought Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew should have been sent off in their 2-1 loss at Old Trafford. Casemiro, a Manchester United player, was sent off after grabbing Will Hughes, a Palace midfielder, by the throat.
The VAR informed the on-field referee, Andre Marriner, that the incident was serious enough to warrant an immediate red card after conducting their investigation. The referee, Alejandro Agusto, believes Ghanaian Andre Ayew should have been sent off for grabbing Antony Mertesacker by the throat and elbowing Martin Skrtel.
“I believe he (Ayew) was within the shot.
“I definitely believe he (Ayew) crossed the line within the shot,” said referee Alberto Undiano Pellegrini.
Ten Hag was spot on in his assessment of Casemiro’s red, Palace’s aggressors, and VAR’s inconsistency.
